Match Report

Canada lost by four goals to group leaders Russia on the second day of the IFCPF World Cup Sevilla 2019. Dmitry Eloev scored twice in the first half while Aleksei Borkin scored a goal in each half. Along with a Netherlands victory over Thailand, both Canada and Thailand were relegated to the classification round while Russia and Netherlands qualified for the knockout phase.
 
In the 8th minute, Dmitry Eloev scored on a left-footed shot from inside the box. On the play, Aslan Tibilov rolled the ball back for Danila Belov who tracked back and passed it to Andrei Shimanov who then played it forward for Dmitry Milenko who back-heeled it quickly for Eloev who took two steps then blasted his shot into the bottom right corner of the net.
 
In the 10th minute, Aleksei Borkin scored on a right-footed shot from just inside the box. On the play, Aslan Tibilov rolled it in short off a corner kick to Dmitry Eloev, who then took a few steps towards the right side of the box before making a needle pass to Borkin in the center of the box to Borkin who wound up and shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
 
In the 39th minute, Dmitry Eloev scored from in front of the net on a right-footed shot inside the box. On the play, Danila Belov passed it to goalkeeper Vladislav Raretskii who then passed it to Andrei Shimanov who passed it to the right of the pitch back to Belov who passed it down the right wing to Aslan Tibilov. From there Tibilov played it back to Belov who played it to Shimanov along the back and then down to Aleksei Borkin on the left wing, Borkin beat his defender and ran down the left then passed it inside the center of the box for Eloev to tap it past Canada’s Damien Wojitiw into the back of the net.
 
In the 59th minute, Aleksei Borkin scored on a right-footed shot from just inside the box. On the play, Andrei Shimanov rolled it in to Soslan Gazdanov, who then crossed it to Aleksei Borkin, then to Viacheslav Larionov who played it back to Borkin who then beat his defender down the right and fired a shot past Canada’s Damien Wojitiw into the back inside left post of the net.
 
Canada’s starting lineup featured Damien Wojtiw in goal, Dustin Hodgson at right back, Joel Wilson at left back, Duncan McDonald, Samuel Charron and Lucas Bruno at midfield, and Diego Gilbert up front. In the second half, coach Drew Ferguson replaced McDonald with Ryan Watson (40’), Bruno with Raji Kamoun (40’), Hodgson with Nicholas Heffernan (40’), Gilbert with William Scott (50’), and Kamoun with Daniel White (58’).
 
Russia’s starting lineup featured Vladislav Raretskii in goal, Danila Belov at right back, Andrei Shimanov at left back, Aslan Tibilov, Dmitry Minenko and Aleksei Borkin at midfield, and Marat Eloev up front. In the second half, coach Avtandil Baramidze replaced Tibilov with Sergei Materukhin (31’), Minenko with Soslan Gazdanov (31’), Eloev with Nika Mirakishvili (31’), Belov with Viacheslav Larionov (52’), and goalkeeper Raretskii with Guram Chkareuli (52’).
