Canada finished fifth at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Football Tournament, reaching the quarter-final phase before losing on kicks from the penalty mark against eventual silver medal winners Brazil. Canada played their group matches in the east (Massachusetts and Maryland) before moving west for the knock-out phase (California). Wrote Canada's head of delegation after the competition, "pride in the performance, satisfaction for the achievement and emotion brought about by the delight of our team members and staff in themselves."
