Vancouver Whitecaps FC came away with a 2:0 victory over Valour FC to advance to the Quarter-Final Round of the 2022 Canadian Championship.

Vancouver had the first real chance in the 11’ with a cross by Lucas Cavallini which found Deiber Caicedo’s head in the box but went just over the crossbar.

The first goal came in the 19’ with Russell Teibert sending a ball off his right foot into the net after Valour FC’s goalkeeper saved a shot from Ryan Raposo.

Deiber Caicedo received a ball inside the box and passed it left for a Ryan Raposo goal off of his right foot straight into the back of the net for the Whitecaps FC’s second goal (22’) and his first goal in the Canadian Championship.

Sean Rea had a strong attempt before halftime but it was stopped by Vancouver with a fully extended Cody Cropper (45+2’).

Russel Teibert received Gatorade Performance of the Match with a strong performance playing the full 90’.

Whitecaps FC kept defensively strong and was able to start off their 2022 Canadian Championship campaign with a clean sheet.

Whitecaps FC’s Starting XI featured five Canadian players: captain Russell Teibert, Marcus Gordinho, Lucas Cavallini, Ryan Raposo and Michael Baldisimo.
