FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers

In the North American Group of 1974 FIFA World Cup Germany Qualifiers, Canada posted a win and a draw against USA, but two losses against Mexico. As such, Canada finished second in the three-team group (Mexico 8 points, Canada 3 points, USA 1 point) and did not advance. In the four international matches, Canada scored six goals, but conceded seven. The highlight of the round was the 3:2 victory over USA at King George V Park in St. John’s, NL. Canada played its first two matches at home (St. John’s, NL and Toronto, ON) then played its third match in Baltimore, USA. Before heading to México for the final match, Canada played an exhibition match in Ciudad Guatemala against a Guatemalan selects team.
