Seventeen Canadian Match Officials named to FIFA International Referees List

Canada Soccer has placed 17 of its match officials to the FIFA International Referee List in 2019. With veteran referees Joe Fletcher and Daniel Belleau retiring from International duty, two new appointees round out the match officials named. They include Referee Myriam Marcotte, and Assistant Referee Stephanie Fortin.

“Appointment to the FIFA list is a prestigious accomplishment and we congratulate the 17 who made the list this year,” said Isaac Raymond Canada Soccer Manager, Referees. “Being named to the list is a culmination of experience and dedication to the referee craft and acknowledgement of excellence at the local, provincial, regional and national level.”

Returnees to the list include Referees Carol Anne Chenard (International since 2006), David Gantar (2011), Sheena Dickson (2013), Marie-Soleil Beaudoin (2014), and Drew Fischer (2015). Returning to the Assistant Referee list are Philippe Briere (International since 2010), Chantal Boudreau (2015), Marie-Han Gagnon Chretien (2015), Richard Gamache (2016), Oscar Mitchell-Carvalho (2017), Michael Barwegen (2018), Chris Wattam (2018), Erina Cho (2018), and Melissa Snedden (2018). In addition, Chris Grabas (2018) is named as a FIFA Futsal Referee.

Canada Soccer is responsible for the development and training of match officials for amateur and professional competitions in Canada. In partnership with our Provincial and Territorial Associations and sanctioned professional leagues, Canada Soccer provides development and training opportunities to advance to the national list of referees and nominations to the FIFA list.
