RMC hosts Olympic medalist Matheson

Olympic medalist Diana Matheson was a guest at Royal Military College on Thursday 12 September, signing autographs and meeting fans at the Kingston Military Community Sports Dome. The two-hour event kicked off at 17.00 in Kingston, ON.

The Matheson appearance helps RMC promote the military's community involvement as well as the sport of soccer in Kingston and Eastern Ontario.

Matheson, a long-time member of Canada's national team, was the famous goal scorer in the London 2012 Women's Olympic Football Tournament bronze-medal match. Matheson's goal came in the final minute of a 1:0 win over France, earning Canada its first medal in a team sport since 1936. It also marked Canada's highest finish in a major women's event (FIFA Women's World Cup or Women's Olympic Tournament).

Since the London 2012 Women's Olympic Football Tournament, Canadian players have made numerous public appearances across Canada, including a team appearance at the Friday 7 September (men's) FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match at BMO Field in Toronto, ON. Next week, players will take part in the Canadian Olympic Heroes Tour in Ottawa and Toronto (including a Toronto parade on 21 September).
