Osieck Announces Roster For US Game

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Men’s World Cup Team Head Coach Holger Osieck today released the names of 15 players from the roster which will face the United States in an international friendly on January 18. An additional player will be announced at a later date. The game will be played at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida with a 7:30 p.m. ET kick-off.

CSA Announces Coaching Staff for the 2003 Women’s National Teams

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association has named the coaching staff of the 2003 Women’s National and Development teams.



Ian Bridge will once again lead the U-18 (players born in 1985) National team as they prepare for the CONCACAF qualifications for the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship in 2004. Bridge, who has been assistant coach of the Women’s World Cup team since 1997, recently assisted Even Pellerud to coach that team as they qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held next September in China. As head coach of the National U-19 team, Bridge led the youth squad to second place this summer at the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship.

Ian Bridge sera de retour à la barre de l’équipe nationale U18 (joueuses nées en 1985) qui se prépare pour le tournoi de qualification CONCACAF en vue des championnats du monde U19 féminins de la FIFA en 2004. Bridge, qui a été entraîneur-adjoint de l’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde depuis 1997, a récemment assisté Even Pellerud à la direction de l’équipe qui s’est récemment qualifiée pour la Coupe du monde féminine de la FIFA, qui se tiendra au mois de septembre en Chine. Men’s World Cup Team to Play The USA In January

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Men’s World Cup Team will play an international friendly against the United States in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday, January 18, 2003 with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff. The US team will consist of domestic-based players (MLS) while the Canadians will mostly field a squad of those who are based in North America and those who will be on their winter breaks from their European clubs. The game is not being played on an international date.

Bridge Named To Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame

Toronto, Ontario – Ian Bridge, who recently coached Canada’s Women’s Under-19 Team to the final of the FIFA Under -19 World Championships, will be one of 11 new inductees to The Soccer Hall of Fame in Vaughan, Ontario next May. However, Bridge’s induction is due to a stellar playing career which saw him play in 33 full international games for Canada, including the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. He also played for the 1984 Canadian Olympic which reached the quarter-finals before losing to Brazil, as well as the Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps of the North American Soccer League (NASL).

Canada To Compete In Algarve Cup

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team will compete against three fellow World Cup qualifiers at the 10th annual Algarve Cup in Portugal in March 2003. The Canadians were put in one of the strongest groups of the tournament with the United States, France and Sweden (all of whom have qualified for the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup).
