Pellerud invite 18 joueuses au Portugal

Ottawa, Ontario – L’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud de l’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a fait connaître son alignement de 18 joueuses pour le tournoi de la Coupe d’Algarve, qui se déroulera du 14 au 20 mars au Portugal.



L’équipe arrivera au Portugal le 7 mars avant d’affronter les États-Unis, le 14 mars, la Suède, le 16 mars et la Norvège, le 18 mars. Le match de classement sera disputé le 20 mars.

Sharpe Named Life Member By SSA

The Saskatchewan Soccer Association is pleased to anounce that CSA President Andy Sharpe was inducted as a life member of the SSA at the AGM of the Association on Saturday, March 1st.



Sharpe, who is a former President of the Association, served a number of years as a board member, was the chairman of a number of committies and coached a number of provincial teams.


Women’s World Cup Team to Play in Korea

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team will play their final game prior to the Women’s World Cup in South Korea against South Korea on Wednesday, September 17, one week before they play their opening game in China. The Canadian Soccer Association also announced its international friendly against Mexico on September 1 in Edmonton has been moved up one day to August 31. The game will now kick-off at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 31 at Commonwealth Stadium. The Edmonton Eskimos play the Calgary Stampeders in the annual Labour Day game on September 1.

L’équipe Féminine De Coupe Du Moned Jouera en Corée du Sud

Ottawa, Ontario – L’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde disputera son dernier match préparatoire avant la présentation de la phase finale de la Coupe du monde en Corée du Sud contre l’équipe nationale de la Corée du Sud, le mercredi 17 septembre 2003, une semaine avant de disputer son premier match en Chine. L’Association canadienne de soccer a aussi annoncé que le match amical international du 1er septembre contre le Mexique à Edmonton a été devancé au 31 août. Le coup d’envoi de cette rencontre sera donné à 14 h 00, le dimanche 31 août au stade du Commonwealth. Le traditionnel match de la fête du travail entre les Eskimos de Edmonton et les Stampeders de Calgary de la Ligue canadienne de football est au programme le lundi 1er septembre.

Steady Growth For Soccer In Canada

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today released its full demographics report outlining complete player registration information for 2002. The report includes breakdowns on historical growth and analysis of provincial registration numbers.
“We are delighted that the growth in our sport is at such significant levels,” said CSA President Andy Sharpe. “2002 was a significant year in our history, as Canadians coast to coast continue to play the sport of soccer in ever increasing numbers.”

Radzinski Replaced By Fletcher

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada arrived to a warm reception today and trained at the National Stadium in Tripoli, Libya.



Carl Fletcher has replaced Tomasz Radzinski on the Canadian roster. Radzinski was forced to miss the game due to a back injury suffered against Charlton on Saturday.

CSA Priorities For 2003

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Soccer Association President Andy Sharpe today issued a statement which addresses CSA views on a number of domestic issues, including professional soccer in Canada, possible Major League Soccer expansion in Canada, the need for a national soccer stadium in Toronto and the number of games being played in Canada.
In this month of February, 2003, no less than six of our national teams will be competing in various locales ranging from Libya, Florida, California, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and the United Arab Emirates. Our Women’s World Cup Team is about to embark on a comprehensive preparation period towards the 2003 Women’s World Cup in China, our Men’s Youth Team will compete in its second consecutive World Youth Championship and our Men’s Junior Team will attempt to qualify for the 2003 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in a qualifying tournament in Victoria, BC in March. Our Women’s Under-19 Team, having reached the association’s first FIFA final in 2002, will have no less than four projects in the United States and Europe as they prepare for the 2004 FIFA Women’s World Championship. Our Men’s World Cup team will play friendlies in Libya, Estonia and Germany and another possibly in Jamaica before competing in their third Gold Cup in less than three and a half years.

Women’s World Cup Team To Face South Korea in Toronto and Montreal

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Women’s World Cup Team will host South Korea in two international friendly matches this summer. The games will be played on June 18, 2003 at Centennial Stadium in Toronto and June 20, 2003 at Claude Robillard Stadium in Montreal.



In their only previous encounter, Canada defeated South Korea 1:0 with a goal scored by Andrea Neil on May 5, 2000 while participating in the Nike Cup in Portland, Oregon. Eight members of the current World Cup Team played in that match: Breanna Boyd, Silvana Burtini, Christine Latham, Isabelle Morneau, Andrea Neil, Sharolta Nonen, Christine Sinclair, and Amy Walsh.

Senior Women’s Team Travels To Florida

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Women’s World Cup Team Head Coach Even Pellerud has named 18 players for a 10-day training camp in Bradenton, Florida from February 10-20, 2003.



The training camp will be Canada’s first event in 2003 leading up to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in China in September. Canada qualified for the World Cup in November after they defeated Mexico 2-0 in the 2002 Women’s Gold Cup semi final.
