Ottawa, Ontario – L’Association canadienne de soccer (ACS) est fière d’annoncer que son équipe féminine de Coupe du monde accueillera celle du Brésil dans un match international amical, jeudi le 17 juillet 2003 au stade Percival Molson de l’Université McGill, à Montréal. Le coup d’envoi est prévu pour 19 h 00 (Heure de l’Est). Ce match s’inscrit dans la préparation de l’équipe canadienne en vue de la Coupe du monde 2003 qui sera disputée aux Etats-Unis, après que la FIFA a décidé de déménager le tournoi, qui devait avoir lieu en Chine, en raison du SRAS.
« Nous sommes excités de participer à la réouverture du stade de l’Université McGill et d’être partenaire de cette institution pour mettre en valeur nos équipes nationales, » a déclaré Andy Sharpe, président de l’ACS.
Kevin McKenna who has five goals in 15 appearances with the Men’s World Cup Team has been added to the roster for this Sunday’s international friendly against the German national team in Wolfsburg, Germany. The team is now set at 18 players with no injuries to report.
McKenna joined the team on Wednesday in Barsinghausen, Germany where the team has been training since Monday.
Canada will depart for Wolfsburg on Saturday where they will hold their final training session.
The FIFA Emergency Committee has taken the decision to relocate the 4th FIFA Women’s World Cup, originally due to be played in China PR, to the United States of America. Four other countries had also submitted an offer to step in for China PR: Sweden, Australia, Italy and Canada.
The exact schedule of the competition will be announced shortly, but the tournament will still take place around the same period (23 September – 11 October 2003), with only a few minor changes to the schedule.

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association announced late Thursday evening it has officially withdrawn its bid to host a Women’s World Cup group in Edmonton, Alberta. The CSA had bid to have Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium act as one of the venues for the 2003 World Cup should FIFA decide to award the tournament to the United States.
However after consulting with CONCACAF President Jack Warner on Thursday the CSA decided to withdraw their offer.

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Men’s World Cup Team Head Coach Holger Osieck today announced his roster for the upcoming international friendly against Germany on June 1 in Wolfsburg, Germany. The game will be televised on Rogers Sportsnet at 7:00 p.m. across the network.
Jason Jordan and Nikola (Niki) Budalic have earned their first call-up to the senior team for the game. Jordan has played for Canada at the Olympic and Youth team level. He was a member of the 1997 team which competed at the FIFA World Youth Championship. Jordan is in his sixth season with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Budalic plays with Orebro in the Swedish Premier league and is a former member of the Toronto Lynx.

Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team will play England at Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast at 11:00 p.m. in the East, 11:30 p.m. in Ontario, 8:00 p.m. (MT) in the West, and 8:00 p.m. (PT) in the West Coast.
