Billets de matchs individuels en vente vendredi

CHICAGO, IL – Le comité organisateur de la Coupe du monde 2003 de soccer féminin de la FIFA a annoncé aujourd’hui qu’un nombre limité de billets pour des matchs individuels aux six sites du tournoi seront mis en vente vendredi le 15 août à compter de 12 h 00 (Heure de l’Est, 9 h 00 Heure du Pacifique) sur le site internet www.fifaworldcup.com. Chaque billet donnera accès à un programme double à l’exception du match pour la troisième place, le 11 octobre et de la finale, le 12 octobre, qui seront présentés seuls au Home Depot Center, à Carson, en Californie.



Les prix de billets pour les matchs individuels varient entre 20$ et 175$ (et jusqu’à 400$ pour la finale). Les personnes intéressées peuvent aussi se procurer des billets en téléphonant au 1-800-WWC-TIKS (992-8457), pour cinq des six sites et au 202-432-SEAT (7328) ou au 1-800-551-SEAT (7328), pour des billets au stade RFK de Washington.

Canadian Women To Play Australia

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Women’s World Cup Team will play Australia on Sunday, September 14 at Richardson Stadium (Queen’s University campus) in Kingston, Ontario at 2:00 p.m.. This will be the team’s final preparation game before the Women’s World Cup. The Canadians open the tournament on September 20 against Germany in Columbus, Ohio.



“I’m excited to be able to get another friendly into our preparation schedule and I love the idea of bringing our team to yet another Canadian city,” said Canadian head coach Even Pellerud. “This will be yet another strong test for us against a side we know quite well.”



Canada split a two-game series with Australia in September 2002, winning the first game 2-0 in Vancouver on September 26 and dropping the second game by a score of 1-0 two days later in Victoria.

Canada to meet Brazil in gold-medal final

Canada will face Brazil in the gold-medal final at Guadalajara 2011. The two sides will meet at the Estadio Omnilife at the XVI Pan American Games Guadalajara 2011 Women’s Football Tournament. The championship final kicks off at 17.00 local (18.00 ET / 15.00 PT) on Thursday 27 October.

CSA Releases Details On Proposed National Soccer Stadium

Toronto, Ontario – At a media conference held at the National Trade Centre at Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto, The Canadian Soccer Association today unveiled its plans for a new 30,000-seat, $82 million stadium complete with a FIFA Recommended artificial grass playing surface designed to ideally suit international soccer while being compatible for CFL football as well as rugby, lacrosse and other field sports. The proposed location would be at Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto.
This morning, CSA has, in support of the project, submitted a complete and detailed application for financial contribution to the Government of Ontario. CSA President Andy Sharpe accompanied by FIFA Vice President Jack Warner met this morning with senior officials of the Government of Ontario and submitted a complete dossier of information related directly to this application of support. It is via the Government of Ontario as well as the Government of Canada that CSA is seeking $62.5 million in total public financial support for the project (shared equally between the provincial and federal governments).

Canada Defeats Brazil 2:1

Montreal, Quebec – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team defeated sixth ranked Brazil 2-1 today in an international friendly in front of 12,245 at Molson Stadium in Montreal.



After a scoreless first half, Brazil’s Tatiana Torres was first to score in the 47th minute with a straight shot from 18 yards out.



Rhian Wilkinson of Baie D’Urfe, Quebec in her second appearance with Canada scored in the 67th minute when she tapped the ball into the net after a Kara Lang cross that sailed past the Brazil goal keeper Giselle Pereira De Vasconcellos.



After a Kristina Kiss free kick in the 88th minute, Canada’s winning goal came from Randee Hermus who was able to find the back of the net on a goal mouth scramble.

Canada To Play Germany, Japan and Argentina

Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team have been drawn into Group C and will play Germany, Japan and Argentina in the opening round of the 2003 Women’s World Cup.



Canada will play against Germany on September 20 in Columbus and then face Argentina on September 24 at Columbus. The team will then travel to Boston to play Japan at Foxboro Stadium on September 27.



Should Canada advance to the quarter-finals they would play against the winner or runner-up in Group D (China, Ghana, Australia and Russia) on October 2 in Portland.

Canadian Soccer Drums for Earthbeat 2003

Ottawa, Ontario – Members of the Canadian Women’s World Cup Soccer Team will join Chief Master Drummer Mr. Derek Debeer and local master drummers in support of Earthbeat 2003 at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18 at the World Exchange Plaza outdoor amphitheatre, located at Metcalfe Street and Queen Street, Ottawa. Following a drumming demonstration by the Earthbeat drummers, the Canadian players will themselves try their hand at drumming under the guidance of Debeer.



Earthbeat 2003 is an integrated community event in which over 3,000 drummers will gather in Ottawa next September 7, 2003, at the annual Urban Music Festival (www.urbanmusicfestival.com), to set a new world record for the largest drum ensemble in the world playing a piece of drum music. Turkey holds the current Guinness world record with 2,208 drummers.
