Hooper sélectionnée au sein des étoiles de la FIFA

L’équipe des étoiles féminine de la FIFA qui affrontera les championnes du monde allemandes dans le cadre des célébrations du Centenaire de la FIFA, le 20 mai 2004 au stade de France à Paris, est désormais connue. Venues des six continents et de 12 pays différents, voici 20 des plus grands noms du soccer féminin, qui donneront le coup d’envoi des festivités du 100e anniversaire de la FIFA. La Canadienne Charmaine Hooper, de Ottawa fait partie de la sélection. DEFENSEURS Charmaine Hooper (CAN) Meilleure attaquante canadienne au cours des dernières années, Hooper, 35 ans, est aujourd’hui non seulement un pion essentiel du dispositif défensif des Nord-américaines, mais au-delà une véritable icône dans le monde du soccer féminin. Son but contre la Chine en quart de finale de la Coupe du monde de 2003 a notamment propulsé les siennes en demi-finale, la première de leur histoire. Détentrice des records de sélections et de buts de son pays, cette joueuse à l’étonnante polyvalence a beaucoup apporté à son pays, et sa forme actuelle tend à prouver qu’elle n’a pas l’intention de s’arrêter en si bon chemin.

Women Honoured As Female Team Of The Year

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team were honoured as Canada’s Female Team of the Year by the Spirit of Sport Foundation (SSF) at the 31st Annual Canadian Sport Awards at a gala event held at the CBC headquarters in Toronto last night for their fourth place finish at the 2003 Women’s World Cup.



The women were the first Canadian senior team to ever win a game at a World Cup soccer competition.

L’équipe senior féminine est choisie équipe canadienne par excellence

L’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a été élue équipe féminine par excellence au Canada pour l’année 2003 par la Fondation de l’esprit du sport (FES) dans le cadre de la 31e cérémonie annuelle des Prix sportifs canadiens qui s’est déroulée au siège social de Radio-Canada à Toronto, hier soir. Cet honneur rejaillit sur l’équipe après sa quatrième place obtenue à la Coupe du monde de football féminin de la FIFA 2003.



L’équipe féminine est devenue la première équipe canadienne senior à remporter un match dans une phase finale de la Coupe du monde de soccer.

Yallop Announces Manchester Camp Roster

Ottawa, Ontario –- Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop today named an 18 player roster for a training camp in Manchester, England from March 28 – April 1. The players are all from European-based clubs.



This is Yallop’s second training camp and his first with players from European-based clubs. His first was for primarily North American-based players in January which was followed by a 1-0 win over Barbados in Bridgetown on January 18. Yallop also scouted players at the Olympic Qualifying tournament in Mexico in February.

World Cup Qualifying Series To Be Played At Richardson Stadium

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Men’s World Cup Team will play both of their World Cup Qualifying games against Belize at Richardson Stadium (Queen’s University campus) in Kingston, Ontario. The first game will be played on Sunday, June 13 (4:30 p.m. kickoff) with the second game scheduled for Wednesday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. ET.



The second game of the series was originally scheduled for June 20 in Belize, however the Belize Football Federation asked the CSA to host the game in Canada.



Tickets for the first game are now available while those for the second game will be available as of Monday, April 5.

2006 World Cup Qualifying

Grenada eliminated Guyana from 2006 CONCACAF World Cup qualifying after defeating the host, 3:1 at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground in Berbice on 14 March and won the first round series 8:1 on aggregate.



Grenada advances into the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Second Round, where they will meet the USA in a home-and-away series in June.



The 2006 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Caribbean First Round Series continue this week with Dominican Republic hosting Anguilla in two matches at the Estadio Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte in Santo Domingo on 19 and 21 March.

Canada To Play Wales On May 30

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Men’s World Cup Team will play an international friendly against Wales in Wrexham, Wales on Sunday, May 30, 2004. Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop will also hold a training camp for European-based players in Manchester, England from March 28 – April 1 during the international break.



The Wales friendly will be part of Canada’s final preparations for the World Cup Qualifying series against Belize which begins in Kingston on June 13 in the first of two games. Canada is also scheduled to play Yallop’s former club San Jose Earthquakes in San Jose on Saturday, June 5. On June 6, the team will travel to Ottawa for a 4-day training camp before arriving in Kingston on June 11.

Canada Defeats Costa Rica For Third Place

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Women’s World Cup Team defeated Costa Rica 4-0 for third at the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Friday, March 5, 2004 in San Jose, Costa Rica.



Forward Christine Sinclair scored two, midfielder Charmaine Hooper and forward Aysha Jamani added goals for a Canadian victory.



Vancouver native, Andrea Neil earned her 100th cap for Canada, second only to Hooper.



Goalkeepers Karina LeBlanc and Erin McLeod shared the shutout.

Cinq Canadiennes honorées par la CONCACAF

San José, COSTA RICA – La CONCACAF a dévoilé aujourd’hui la composition de l’équipe d’étoiles de son tournoi de qualification olympique féminin. Cette sélection a été effectuée par le groupe d’études techniques de la CONCACAF. Sept joueuses ont aussi reçu une mention d’honneur.



Le gardien de but canadien Karina LeBlanc a été sélectionné au sein de l’équipe ainsi que les défenseurs Joy Fawcett (É.-U.), Sharlota Nonen (CAN) et Gabriela Trujillo (CRC).



En milieu de terrain, le Groupe d’études technique a retenu les Américaines Shannon Boxx et Aly Wagner, la Costa Ricaine Cindy Rodriguez et la Mexicaine Monica Vergara tandis que la Costa Ricaine Shirley Cruz, la Mexicaine Maribel Dominguez et l’Américaine Abby Wambach ont été les attaquantes choisies.
