Canada’s men’s national team arrives in Florida

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Canada’s men’s national team arrived in Florida today for an 11-day training camp with interim head coach Stephen Hart. Eighteen Canadian players will be in Fort Lauderdale, FL from Jan. 15-25.



“Many of the players invited into this camp are on Winter break or are presently between their playing season,” says Hart. “We view this camp as an ideal opportunity for us to have these players in a training camp environment for an extended period – before they return to their clubs.”

Canadian men’s national team heading to Florida

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Canada’s men’s national team will take part in its first training camp this season under interim head coach Stephen Hart in Florida. Hart will run an 11-day camp from Jan. 15-25 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.



While the full roster has yet to be confirmed, it is expected that the list will comprise mostly of North American-based players who are out of season as well as a few European-based players who are on a break.

FIFA announces match officials for 2007

OTTAWA, ONTARIO РThe Canadian Soccer Association has received confirmation from FIFA (F̩d̩ration Internationale de Football Association) that 16 Canadian officials will be included in the International List of Match Officials for 2007 effective January 1st.



FIFA publishes a list of referees and assistant referees that are eligible to officiate at international matches. The list is drawn from the National Soccer Associations nominations for officials who meet the conditions required by FIFA.

Craig Forrest to be honoured by The Soccer Hall of Fame

Former men’s national team goalkeeper and television analyst Craig Forrest will be one of eleven new inductees into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame next April. Joining Forrest in the player category will be Glen Johnson, who played for Canada in the 1970s, and Connie Cant, who played 23 times for the women’s national team in the 80s. Also being inducted are two former players who have passed on. They are Domenic Mobilio, who played 25 times for Canada before his untimely death at the age of 35 in 2004, and Bill Findler, who was a star in the 1920s and 1930s with Edmonton C.N.R. and Westminster Royals.



Being inducted into the Builder category are long serving Canadian Soccer Association president Jim Fleming, national team doctor Rudy Gittens, former CSA Technical Director, Bill Thomson, Herb Capozzi, owner of the Vancouver Whitecaps, during the North American Soccer League years, and Gus Etchegarry long time administrator from the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association.

2007 CONCACAF GOLD CUP™ VENUES ANNOUNCED

Chicago’ s Soldier Field to host Semifinals & Final



NEW YORK (Thursday, 30 November 2006) – CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) today unveiled the six stadiums that will host matches in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup™ , the 12-nation tournament taking place from 6-24 June in the USA. The ninth edition of the Gold Cup, the tournament that crowns the region’ s top national team, will feature five venues that have hosted Gold Cup games before and one that is new to the event.



The 2007 edition of the CONCACAF event kicks off with the first round consisting of three groups of four teams competing on a round-robin basis. The three opening venues of the 2007 tournament will be; Orange Bowl in Miami (Florida) (three match dates); Home Depot Center near Los Angeles in Carson (California) (two match dates), and; Giants Stadium close to New York City in East Rutherford (New Jersey) (two match dates).

Canada Will Play Jamaica Wednesday

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada Will Play Jamaica in the 2006 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup™ Semi-final on Wednesday after Jamaica defeated Panama 2:0 in the first round held at the Tropical Park Stadium in Miami, Florida USA on Sunday.



The victory for Jamaica also secured a Caribbean berth to the women’s tournament at the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil.



The semi-final between Canada and Jamaica of the 2006 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup™ at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills (Carson, California) will be televised in Canada live on Rogers Sportsnet beginning at 7:30 pm ET.

Le Canada affrontera la Jamaïque mercredi prochain

Ottawa, Ontario – C’est finalement la Jamaïque qu’affrontera le Canada, mercredi prochain, en demi-finales de la Gold Cup féminine 2006 de la CONCACAF. La Jamaïque a battu le Panama 2-0 au premier tour du tournoi qui s’est tenu au stade Tropical Park de Miami, en Floride, dimanche dernier.



Grâce à cette victoire, la Jamaïque a aussi décroché le billet des Caraïbes pour le tournoi féminin des Jeux Panaméricains qui auront lieu au Brésil en 2007.

Pellerud annonce son alignement pour la Gold Cup

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – L’entraîneur-chef de l’équipe canadienne féminine senior, Even Pellerud, a annoncé les noms des 22 joueuses qui participeront à l’édition 2006 de la Gold Cup féminine de la CONCACAF, qui se tiendra du 22 au 26 novembre prochain au Home Depot Center, à Carson, en Californie.



Le Canada y affrontera le Panama ou la Jamaïque au cours de la demi-finale du 22 novembre prochain, à 19 h 30 (heure normale de l’Est). Les enjeux du match sont élevés, car les équipes qui remporteront les deux demi-finales se qualifieront non seulement pour la finale du tournoi, mais également pour la Coupe du monde féminine 2007 de la FIFA.

Ipswich Town FC midfielder Jaime Peters to join the Canadian team in Hungary

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Head coach Stephen Hart announced over the weekend that Ipswich Town FC midfielder Jaime Peters will join the Canadian team for the upcoming international friendly between Canada and Hungary in Székesfehérvár (just outside of Budapest) on November 15th. The game kicks off at 8:00pm local time (2:00 pm ET).



It’s been a year since Peters last played for the men’s national team. His last appearance was on November 15th, 2005 when Canada defeated Luxemburg 1:0.



The Pickering, Ontario native is a well known veteran on Canada’s U-20 World Cup team. In fact, Peters is coming off a recent scoring performance where he earned his second career goal for the U-20 squad on October 6th 2006 when Canada defeated the Czech Republic 2:1.



21-year-old midfielder Andrzej Ornoch will also be making his debut for Canada. The Scarborough-native is enjoying a good season with Hungarian club Papa Lombard FC and will look to make a lasting first impression on the Canadian head coach.
