Canada to play in Alabama series

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Canada’s women’s Olympic development team will play two games in the 2007 International Soccer Festival in Alabama this month. Canada will face México on 22 April in Birmingham, AL and Argentina on 24 April in Montgomery, AL.



Canada will send a mixed team of national-team veterans and youth-team prospects to this tournament. Canada is currently preparing for the XV Pan American Games Rio 2007 in July and the FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007 in September. The Olympic qualification tournament takes place in March 2008. Along with the two games in Alabama this month, Canada’s full women’s national team plays international friendly matches against China on 3 May and 6 May (Hangzou) and against the United States on 12 May (Frisco, TX).

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – L’équipe canadienne féminine olympique disputera deux matchs dans le cadre du Festival international de soccer de l’Alabama ce mois-ci. Le Canada affrontera le Mexique le 22 avril prochain à Birmingham (Alabama) et l’Argentine le 24 avril à Montgomery (Alabama).



Pour ce tournoi, l’équipe canadienne comptera sur une équipe mixte de vétérans de l’équipe nationale et de jeunes espoirs. Le Canada se prépare actuellement en vue de la 15e édition des Jeux panaméricains qui se tiendront à Rio, en juillet, ainsi que pour la Coupe du Monde de Football Féminin de la FIFA, Chine 2007, en septembre. Le tournoi qualificatif pour les Jeux Olympiques aura lieu en mars 2008. En plus des deux matchs de ce mois-ci en Alabama, l’équipe canadienne féminine senior disputera deux matchs amicaux contre la Chine, les 3 et 6 mai prochains, à Hangzhou, en Chine, et contre les États-Unis le 12 mai prochain à Frisco (Texas).

Canada announces friendly series with China

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Canada’s women’s national team will face China in a two-game international friendly series in early May. Canada will face China on 3 May and 6 May in Hangzou, China, their first matches in China in three years. This two-game series will give Canada a chance to visit the host country for the FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007.



“We are very fortunate to have this opportunity to visit the World Cup host country,” says Canadian national coach Even Pellerud. “It is important for us to identify travel issues, pollution issues, food issues, maybe even heat issues – all the small differences that are expected to become critical factors when we move into September (for the World Cup).

Le Canada annonce une série de matchs amicaux contre la Chine

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – L’équipe nationale féminine canadienne se mesurera à la Chine au cours d’une série de deux matchs internationaux amicaux au début du mois de mai. Le Canada jouera contre la Chine les 3 et 6 mai à Hangzou en Chine, ses premiers matchs sur le sol chinois en trois ans. Cette série de deux rencontres permettra au Canada d’affronter le pays hôte de la Coupe du Monde féminine de la FIFA, Chine 2007.



« Nous avons beaucoup de chance d’avoir l’occasion de visiter le pays hôte, a déclaré l’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud. Il est important de pouvoir identifier les problèmes éventuels de déplacement, de pollution, de nourriture, voir même de conditions climatiques, toutes ces petites différences qui peuvent devenir des facteurs critiques en septembre (pour la Coupe du Monde).

CONCACAF Gold Cup tickets go on sale

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Canadian fans hoping to follow the men’s national team at the CONCACAF Gold Cup can now purchase tickets to Canada’s opening round matches in Miami, FL. Canada will face Costa Rica on 6 June, Guadeloupe on 9 June, and Haiti on 11 June. All three games will be played at the Orange Bowl in Miami.

Big weekend for men’s national teams

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Canada’s three men’s national teams are all scheduled to play in international friendly matches this weekend. Canada’s men’s national team plays Bermuda in Hamilton, Bermuda on Sunday 25 March, the Hyundai men’s U-20 team presented by Yahoo! Canada plays Scotland in Coquitlam, BC on Saturday 24 March, and Canada’s men’s U-17 team plays México in México City on Sunday 25 March.



Canada’s men’s national team has been training in Bermuda all week in anticipation of their Sunday friendly. Canada’s senior team has faced Bermuda seven times including their first encounter in World Cup Qualifying back on 6 October 1968 in Toronto (4:0 win). Canada and Bermuda last faced off against each other on 11 January 2000 in Hamilton, Bermuda (Canada 2:0 win on two Martin Nash goals). Canada has three wins and four draws in seven matches against Bermuda.

Canada announces international friendly with Costa Rica

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) –The Canadian Soccer Association announced today their men’s national team has scheduled an international friendly with CONCACAF rival Costa Rica. The two teams will play in Toronto at the National Soccer Stadium on 12 September 2007.



Canada has faced Costa Rica 15 times at the men’s senior team level, including four matches in past Gold Cup competitions. Costa Rica won the last match 1:0 on a Jafet Soto penalty kick in the 2005 Gold Cup (7 July in Seattle, WA). Canada won their previous Gold Cup match in 2003 (1:0 after a Paul Stalteri strike) while both teams earned draws in 2000 (2:2) and 1993 (1:1). In 11 other match-ups (World Cup qualifying or international friendly matches), Canada has recorded two wins, six losses and three draws. In all, Canada has faced Costa Rica 39 times at all levels (Canada has 14 wins, 15 losses and 10 draws).

Canada updates roster for weekend friendly with Bermuda

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Three players were added to Canada’s men’s national team in Hamilton, Bermuda. Adam Braz, Olivier Occean and Josh Simpson joined their Canadian teammates yesterday for the week-long camp leading up to the 25 March international friendly.



Four other players were unable to attend the camp: Ante Jazi (knee), Gabe Gervais (groin), Iain Hume (ankle) and Tam Nsaliwa.

Canada announces roster for upcoming men’s national team camp

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Canada’s men’s national team heads to Hamilton, Bermuda this weekend for a training camp and international friendly match at the Bermuda National Stadium. The international friendly on 25 March will be Canada’s men’s national team’s first of the 2007 season.







“Following the camp in Florida where we were fortunate to have most of the North Ameican based players for an extended period,” says interim head coach Stephen Hart. “This is another excellent opportunity for mainly the European based players to come together, train and play.”
