Directors arrive in Toronto for Association meetings

The Canadian Soccer Association has landed in Toronto this weekend for a series of meetings to help develop the game in Canada. Top-level meetings on Friday and Saturday are aimed at developing the Association’s new strategic framework. The two-day workshop will be followed by a Board of Directors Meeting and Special General Meeting on Sunday.
The strategic plan will be the Canadian Soccer Association’s new blueprint for the next five years. The plan in development will receive significant discussion over the next several months leading up to the Annual General Meeting in St. John’s, NL. Sunday’s agenda for the Special General Meeting includes the final approval for the 2008 budget.

De Rosario is male selection for adidas Canadian Players of the Year award

The Canadian Soccer Association announced today that Dwayne De Rosario is the male selection for the 2007 adidas Canadian Players of the Year award. De Rosario was honoured in a vote shared by Canadian media (50%) and Canadian coaches who have taken the Canadian Soccer Association’s national course at the B and A levels (50%).



De Rosario of Scarborough, ON wins the award for the third-consecutive season. His co-winner – Christine Sinclair of Burnaby, BC from the Winners – women’s national team – has been the same in all three years.

Canada keeps CONCACAF fourth in FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings

Canada’s men’s national team is still the fourth-ranked nation amongst CONCACAF countries in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings released today. The top-seven CONCACAF countries did not switch places within the confederation, although each made small moves up or down in the world rankings.



Within the CONCACAF top-10, Jamaica moved up to 8th place while Trinidad & Tobago moved down to 10th. Guatemala cracked the top-10 and sits in 9th place. Mexico (1), the United States (2) and Honduras (3) are still the top-three ranked CONCACAF nations.

Canada keeps CONCACAF fourth place in latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings

Canada’s men’s national team remains in fourth place amongst all CONCACAF nations in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings which were released today. None of the top-four CONCACAF countries picked up any new points in the January 2008 ranking, although the United States (20), Honduras (54) and Canada (56) all dropped one place in the world rankings. Mexico (15) remains the top-ranked CONCACAF country in the world rankings.



While the top-four countries did little in the world rankings, there was some movement in the rest of the confederation. Saint Kitts and Nevis made the biggest jump (27 points and 9 places in the world rankings) while Saint Vincent & the Grenadines made the biggest drop (132 points and 29 places).

Canada heads for Florida, prepares for St. Lucia and Estonia

Canada’s men’s national team will open their first training camp of the 2008 season in Fort Lauderdale, FL next week. The team will run an 11-day training camp before heading to St. Lucia to play their first international friendly of the 2008 season on Saturday 2 February. The men’s national team also announced that it will face the Republic of Estonia (Eesti Vabariik) in Tallinn on 26 March 2008.

L’équipe canadienne féminine s’envole pour la Chine pour participer au Tournoi des Quatre Nations

L’équipe nationale canadienne féminine senior se rend aujourd’hui à Guangzhou, en Chine, en vue de participer à l’édition 2008 du Tournoi des Quatre Nations. L’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud et son personnel amènent un groupe de 21 joueuses en Chine pour participer au tournoi à quatre équipes. Au cours du tournoi, les quatre équipes disputeront chacune trois matchs. Tous les matchs seront disputés au Stade Olympique de Guangzhou.



Parrainée par son commanditaire en titre, Winners, l’équipe nationale canadienne féminine senior est actuellement au milieu de ses préparatifs en vue de participer au Tournoi qualificatif de la CONCACAF pour les Jeux Olympiques qui auront lieu en avril au Mexique (México). C’est dans le cadre de ce Tournoi des Quatre Nations que le Canada disputera ses trois premiers matchs de préparation de la saison 2008.

CONCACAF’s road to South Africa 2010 begins next month

CONCACAF.com • The road for CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) teams to the FIFA World Cup™ South Africa 2010 begins next month after the official unveiling, today, by FIFA of the first-leg encounters in the Stage 1 home-and-away elimination series.



The CONCACAF World Cup Qualification kicks off on 3 February 2008, with Bermuda hosting Cayman Islands at the National Sports Centre in Hamilton.

Canada departs for China and Four Nations Tournament

Canada’s women’s national team departs for Guangzhou, China today to play in the 2008 Four Nations Tournament. Coach Even Pellerud and his staff will take 21 players to China for the four-team, three-game tournament to be played at the Guangzhou Olympic Stadium.



Canada’s women’s national team – whose title sponsor is Winners – is preparing for April’s CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament in México. Canada is playing its first three preparatory games of the 2008 season at the Four Nations Tournament. Canada plays the United States on 16 January (13.00 local time), hosts China on 18 January (14.00), and Suomi (Finland) on 20 January (13.00).

Canada announces roster for Four Nations Tournament

Canada’s women’s national team announced its roster for the upcoming Four Nations Tournament today. Coach Even Pellerud has selected 21 players for Canada’s trip to China and the four-team, three-game tournament.



Canada will face the United States on 16 January, hosts China on 18 January, and Finland (Suomi) on 20 January.
