Canada will face England in the 12 March Cyprus Women’s Cup final after finishing first in Group B play. Canada, the defending Cyprus Women’s Cup champions, is looking to repeat following their 3:0 victory over the United States’ U-20 team in the 2008 final. The two sides will meet at GSP Stadium in Nicosia, the home stadium of the Cyprus national team.

“We would like to find some continuity in the team,” said coach Carolina Morace who is looking to build on her first win as coach of Canada. “It is important that we keep our concentration during the match. As the leaders of Group B, I think the team has more confidence and strength as we go into the last match.”

North American nations learned the host cities for this year’s 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States. Thirteen different cities will host the confederation championship – one for each day of matches. The 2009 Gold Cup runs 3-26 July.
The final schedule and groups’ draw will be announced at a later date. The 12 teams participating are Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and USA.
Amy Walsh has become the fifth Canadian player to make 100 appearances for the national team. The Canadian midfielder reached the century mark this afternoon in a
2:1 win over Netherlands at the 2009 Cyprus Women’s Cup.
“It feels good to reach 100 appearances,” says Walsh. “I feel it’s been a long time coming with a couple injuries. It’s very special to share the moment with a core group of girls that I have played with for a long time.”
