Will lightning – rather goal scoring’s magical milestone – strike twice on Monday night at BMO Field? For the first time in women’s international football history, two players will kickoff in the same game stuck on 99 goals – Canada’s Christine Sinclair and USA’s Abby Wambach. The two stars have the opportunity to reach 100 goals on Monday 25 May when Canada faces USA at BMO Field in Toronto.
Tickets to the match, which is presented by Winners, are available via Ticketmaster (ticketmaster.ca / 416.872.5000). Ticket prices range between $15-35. For those fans outside the Toronto area, the match will be broadcast live on Rogers Sportsnet (19.00 ET / 16.00 PT).
Canada’s women’s national head coach Carolina Morace will make her Canadian debut this Monday night as Canada hosts USA at BMO Field in Toronto. She has a pretty tough competitor as Canada goes up against the world’s number-one ranked country and defending Olympic champions. Still, Canada is ready for the task as the team plays in front of its home fans.
“They want to win – they are the champions of the Olympic Games and they want to confirm their power,” says Morace.
Christine Sinclair already holds a host of Canadian national team records, most notably those that include putting the ball into the back of the net. Most career goals (99), most goals in a season (16), consecutive games in a season with a goal (6), and most career goals at the FIFA Women’s World Cup (6): they are all records held by the Canadian scoring star.
At just 25 years of age, Sinclair is just three games away from setting another record, this one not for goal scoring. With 129 international appearances, she is just three back of all-time leader Andrea Neil (132). On Monday 25 May at BMO Field, Sinclair will tie Charmaine Hooper for second on the all-time list with her 130th career appearance.
Jodi-Ann Robinson is just 20 years old, but she has already made 33 appearances for Canada’s national team. Should she enter the pitch this Monday 25 May for a 34th appearance, it will in fact be her first played in Canada.
Robinson is one of six players making their home debut with the national team. Christina Julien and Alyssa Lagonia are indeed rookies and have yet to play in Canada with the national team. Kaylyn Kyle, Marie-Eve Nault and Stephanie Labbé have also yet to play in Canada with the national team.

There has been lots of talk of goals numbered 100 – both Canada’s Christine Sinclair and USA’s Abby Wambach are stuck on No. 99 heading into Monday’s clash at BMO Field. For Canadian goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc, however, she is completely focused on another number: clean sheet #30.
LeBlanc is Canada’s all-time leader with 29 clean sheets, more than double her closest teammate Erin McLeod (13). She is also the longest-serving member of the Canadian team, now in her 12th season with a record 69 appearances under her belt. She twice recorded five clean sheets in a season, which before last year was also a national-team record.

Coach Carolina Morace had Canada’s women’s national team for a second full day of training today, once again in Vaughan at the Vaughan Grove Sports Centre. Morace put her team through two training sessions as the team continued its preparations for Monday’s international friendly match against the world’s number-one ranked USA.
