The Canadian Soccer Association announced today that Rogers Sportsnet will broadcast the upcoming 22 July match between Canada and USA’s women’s national teams. The match, which will be the 47th encounter between the two sides, will be broadcast live from Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC. The match will be carried on all four Sportsnet channels (20.00 ET / 17.00 PT).

Canada’s men’s national team enjoyed another day of training at Rhodes Field at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Canada is currently preparing for this Saturday’s quarter-final match at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Canada-Honduras match kicks off at 17.00 ET (14.00 PT) and will be broadcast live on all four Rogers Sportsnet channels.
“To be honest, we don’t have any fears,” said coach Stephen Hart of his opposition. “There is an understanding that it is just one game. There are certain things we do well. If you focus on that, do the best along those lines, then you can come away with a result.”
Canada women’s national head coach Carolina Morace has selected a squad of 24 players to represent Canada in a pair of upcoming friendly matches against USA. Canada opens the two-game set in Rochester, NY on Sunday 19 July and concludes the series three days later on Wednesday 22 July 22 in Charleston, SC.

Through the group phase, Canada is undefeated and confident before its quarter-final stage match against Honduras this 18 July in Philadelphia. The team traveled from Miami to Philadelphia on Saturday 11 July after finishing first in Group A.
This Saturday’s Canada-Honduras match will be broadcast live on Rogers Sportsnet (all four channels; 17.00 ET / 14.00 PT). The winner of the quarter-final match advances to the semi-final stage on 23 July in Chicago.
CONCACAF introduced the four head coaches whose national teams will meet this Saturday 18 July in Philadelphia in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-final stage. Stephen Hart of Canada, Reinaldo Rueda of Honduras, Gary Stempel of Panama and Bob Bradley of USA were all on hand at Lincoln Financial Field to preview the Canada-Honduras and USA-Panama matches.
“This is the first time in the CONCACAF Gold Cup that we are fortunate enough to be here in Philadelphia,” said CONCACAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer. “We have some really wonderful games that will be played here.”

Canada won 1:0 over Jamaica on 3 July in Los Angeles, won 1:0 over El Salvador on 7 July in Columbus, and drew 2:2 with Costa Rica on 10 July in Miami. The team will have five sessions this week before Saturday night’s quarter-final match against Honduras at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. All 19 players were in gear for today’s practice at the University of Pennsylvania. Coach Stephen Hart and his staff had the team for just over 90 minutes on the grass pitch.
