Toronto FC announces award winners

Toronto FC has announced its annual award winners at its year-end “90th Minute” party in Toronto, ON. The Major League Soccer franchise celebrated its third season at Alice Fazooli’s in downtown Toronto on Wednesday night.



Midfielder Dwayne De Rosario won both the Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot awards, goalkeeper Stefan Frei won the Defender of the Year award, and defender/captain Jim Brennan won the Humanitarian of the Year award.

Canada prepares in Skopje

Canada’s men’s national team will wrap up its week-long training camp in Skopje on Friday morning before shifting camp to Strumica in the south east of Macedonia. Coach Stephen Hart and his staff are using the camp to prepare the team for their upcoming international friendly matches against FYR Macedonia (14 November) and Poland (18 November).

Beaulieu-Bourgault added to Canadian roster

Canada’s national team has added Jonathan Beaulieu-Bourgault to the roster for its current camp in Europe. Beaulieu-Bourgault is coach Stephen Hart’s 18 call-up for the camp that includes international friendly matches against FYR Macedonia (14 November) and Poland (18 November).



“This is a good opportunity for Jonathan to join the squad,” said Hart. “He was unlucky to miss out on the Cyprus game (31 May) through injury. He is available now and I am sure he is thrilled to be part of the selection.”

Canada announces roster for European matches

Canada’s men’s national team has announced its 17-player roster in advance of the upcoming international matches in Europe. The Canadian squad will play FYR Macedonia on 14 November and Poland on 18 November. The first match will be played in Strumica, Macedonia and will kickoff at 13.00 local time (07.00 ET / 04.00 PT), while the second match will be played in Bydgoszcz, Poland and kickoff at 17.00 local (11.00 ET / 08.00 PT).



Interim head coach Stephen Hart has named an experienced squad for the European matches. Fifteen of the 17 players named play professional football in Europe. The two other players come from North American-based clubs – Toronto FC’s Julian de Guzman and DC United’s Dejan Jakovic.

Morace announces details for Florida camp

Canadian women’s national team head coach Carolina Morace has announced details on Canada’s upcoming training camp in Sunrise, Florida. The 12-day camp will run this 3 – 14 November and will feature 22 players.



“This is an important training camp as we continue to build towards the FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualification tournament in 2010,” said head coach Morace. “As our program is currently in a transition phase, the time we spend together is very valuable. I have taken this opportunity to expand the pool of players for the senior national team program by bringing in several players who haven’t been involved in the national team set up in the past.”

Morace dévoile les détails sur le camp d’entraînement à venir en Floride

Carolina Morace, l’entraîneur-chef de l’équipe canadienne nationale féminine, a dévoilé plus de détails sur le camp d’entraînement qui aura lieu à Sunrise, Floride. Le camp de douze jours commencera le 3 novembre et continuera jusqu’au 14 novembre; un total de 22 joueuses participeront au camp.



Morace a avoué l’importance du camp d’entrainement à venir. « Ce camp est très important dans nos préparatifs en vue du Tournoi éliminatoire de la Coupe du Monde Féminine 2010. Étant donné que notre programme est toujours en période de transition, chaque moment passé ensemble comme équipe est alors crucial. Je profite de l’occasion afin d’élargir le réseau de joueuses disponibles pour le programme de l’équipe nationale séniore en invitant des joueuses qui n’ont jamais eu l’occasion de participer avec l’équipe nationale auparavant. »

Canada adds Poland to European schedule

The Canadian men’s national team has announced that it will face Poland on 18 November in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The match will kickoff at 17:00 local time (11:00 ET) in the northern Polish city.



Combined with the match against Macedonia on 14 November in Strumica (also a 17.00 local kickoff – 11:00 ET), Canada will have played 8 competitive matches in 2009. Under interim head coach Stephen Hart Canada has compiled a 4-1-1 record in 2009, including a strong run to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-final stage.

Canadian Soccer League announces award winners

Serbian White Eagles’ forward Sasa Viciknez has been named Canadian Soccer League Most Valuable Player for the 2009 season. The 35-year old Viciknez wins the award for the second time in his career, having first won the title in 2006.



Viciknez was one of several Canadian Soccer League award winners announced at season’s end. Viciknez’s teammates also won awards: Mirko Medic won CSL Defender of the Year while Dan Pelc won CSL Goalkeeper of the Year.

Association responds to FIFA Amendments (Protection of Minors)

The Canadian Soccer Association wishes to clarify its position on the recent FIFA amendments to the Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players (Protection of Minors) in regards to Academies.
At its meetings on 18 December 2008 and 19 March 2009, the FIFA Executive approved a number of amendments to its Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players (Protection of Minors) that took effect as of 1 October 2009. Article 19 and 19bis of this regulation have been placed on the list of articles that are binding at the national level and must be included, without amendment, in association regulations.
