2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa on CBC

All 64 matches of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ will be broadcast live in English and French this summer in Canada. The matches will be broadcast by CBC Television, Radio-Canada Télévision, CBC Bold, CBCSports.ca and Radio-Canada.ca. The schedule provides more than 1,000 total combined hours of broadcast via television and webstream from 11 June through 11 July.

Canada announces home-and-away series with Germany

The Canadian Soccer Association announced today that it has organized a home-and-away series for its women’s national team against the reigning two-time world champion Germany. The two countries have agreed to meet this 15 September 2010 in Germany with a return match to be played in Canada the following year in 2011. The first match will lend to both program’s preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011 while the second match will be part of the preparations for the 2012 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.



“It is important that we continue to improve our international experience,” said national coach Carolina Morace. “Germany is a team with a long history as one of the best teams in Europe and in the world.”

L’Association canadienne de soccer a annoncé aujourd’hui qu’elle a organisé une série de matchs de deux manches pour son équipe nationale féminine contre l’Allemagne, dont le pays champion mondial régnant depuis deux ans. Les deux pays ont donc pris rendez-vous pour le 15 septembre 2010 en Allemagne avec un match retour qui sera disputé au Canada l’année suivante en 2011. Canada returns to top-10 on FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings

Canada’s women’s national team has moved back up into the top-10 on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking. Canada moved up two spots to 10th place on the newest ranking released this 12 March. Canada, whose title partner is Winners and whose presenting partner is Teck, remains the second-ranked team within CONCACAF behind the world’s number-one ranked nation, USA.

Sinclair and De Rosario named CanadaSoccer.com Fans’ Choices

Christine Sinclair and Dwayne De Rosario have been selected as the 2009 CanadaSoccer.com Fans’ Choices in an online vote which ran on the Canadian Soccer Association’s official website, www.CanadaSoccer.com.



In recognition of Canadian soccer fans’ support, two winners have been selected from those individuals who voted online. This year’s winners are Jennifer Christie and Scott Dickerson, both of whom will receive a Canada jersey personally signed by national team heroes Sinclair and De Rosario.

Breen inducted to Sport NL Hall of Fame

One-time Challenge Trophy winner John Breen will be inducted into the Sport Newfoundland Labrador Hall of Fame this April 2010. Mr. Breen will join softball players Bill Barron and Pat Kelly, curler Patricia Dyer, a hockey player Art Hamlyn at the Induction Gala next month.



The Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Hall of Fame is designed to “recognize, honour and pay tribute to all individuals, groups, associations, families or teams on the basis of playing ability, sportsmanship and character and who have achieved extra-ordinary distinction in any sport, whether that distinction be achieved in amateur and/or professional athletics.”

Canada to meet New Zealand in Cyprus Cup Final

Canada’s women’s national team will face New Zealand in the 2010 Cyprus Women’s Cup final this Wednesday 3 March. Canada is making its third consecutive appearance in the Cyprus Women’s Cup final, having won the 2008 tournament and finishing runner up in 2009. The Canada-New Zealand final kicks off at 17.00 local (10.00 ET / 07.00 ET) at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia, Cyprus.
