Canada won its third women’s international soccer tournament of the 2010 season, this time the Torneio Internacional Cidade de São Paulo in Brazil. In the championship final, Canada extended its unbeaten streak to 10 matches with a 2:2 draw against the host. Both Canada and Brazil finished the tournament with two wins and two draws, but Canada lifted the trophy on account of the greater goal differential in four matches.
Canada has tied its national record of 10 straight women’s international soccer matches without a loss. The 2010 record ties a previous 10-match streak set in 2003. Canada’s newest streak is intact following a 2:2 draw with Brazil on 19 December at the Torneio Internacional Cidade de São Paulo. Canada finished ahead of Brazil in the tournament standings thanks to the greater goal difference, clinched by captain Christine Sinclair’s tying goal in the 83rd minute of the championship match.
