Women’s National Team nominees for the 2022 Canada Soccer Player Awards

Canada Soccer have launched voting for the 2022 Canada Soccer Players Awards, marking the 30th anniversary since the awards were introduced in 1993. Media and coaches will vote for the Canada Soccer Players of the Year Award while fans will vote for the Allstate Canada Soccer National Teams Good Hands Award.

JANINE BECKIE
Janine Beckie started all five matches at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, she made 15 international “A” appearances and scored three goals and four assists. At the club level from January through November 2022, Beckie made 29 appearances, notably winning the 2022 FA League Cup with Manchester City FC and the 2022 NWSL Championship with Portland Thorns FC. She earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in June.

KADEISHA BUCHANAN
Kadeisha Buchanan featured in every minute at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, she made 15 international “A” appearances and ranked second in minutes played. At the club level from January to November, Buchanan made 27 appearances with FCF Olympique Lyonnais and Chelsea FC, notably winning the 2021-22 Championnat de France and 2021-22 UEFA Champions League title. She earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in May.

JESSIE FLEMING
Jessie Fleming started all five matches and was a Best XI all-star at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. She led Canada with 17 international “A” appearances and 1,420 minutes and co-led Canada with five goals. At the club level from January to November 2022, she made 41 appearances and helped Chelsea FC win the 2021-22 FA Women’s Super League and 2022 FA Cup.

VANESSA GILLES
Vanessa Gilles started four matches and was a Best XI all-star at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, she made eight international “A” appearances, scored two goals and earned Performance of the Match honours in a historic win over Germany. At the club level from January through November 2022, Gilles made 17 appearances split between Angel City FC and FCF Olympique Lyonnais. She earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in February.

JULIA GROSSO
Julia Grosso made four appearances and was a Best XI all-star at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. She also won the Concacaf Golden Boot award. In all, she made a career-high 15 international “A” appearances across the calendar year. At the club level from January through November 2022, Grosso made 31 appearances and won the 2021-22 Serie A, 2022 Coppa Italia, and 2022 Supercoppa.

JORDYN HUITEMA
Jordyn Huitema featured in all five matches at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, she made 15 international “A” appearances (tied for second on Canada), scored one goal, and led Canada with five assists. At the club level from January through November, Huitema made 27 appearances, helped Paris Saint-Germain FC win the 2021-22 Coupe de France, and OL Reign win the 2022 NWSL Shield.

ASHLEY LAWRENCE
Ashley Lawrence started all five matches at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, she made 12 international “A” appearances, scored one goal and recorded three assists. At the club level from January through November, Lawrence made 30 appearances, was a 2021-22 Trophée UNFP Équipe Type de D1 (all-star), and she helped Paris Saint-Germain FC win the 2022 Coupe de France. She earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in March.

ADRIANA LEON
Adriana Leon featured in all five matches at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, she featured in 14 international “A” matches and co-led Canada with five goals. She also earned three Performance of the Match honours across the calendar year. At the club level from January to November 2022, she made 16 appearances with West Ham United FC and Manchester United FC. She earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in September. 

NICHELLE PRINCE
Nichelle Prince featured in four matches at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, she made 15 international “A” appearances, recorded one assist, and earned Performance of the Match honours in the Concacaf win over Costa Rica. At the club level from January to November 2022, Prince made 25 appearances in all competitions and co-led all Canadians in the NWSL with five goals scored.

QUINN
Quinn featured in all five matches at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, they made a career-high 15 international “A” appearances and earned Performance of the Match honours in an October win over Argentina. At the club level from January to November 2022, Quinn made 24 appearances with the OL Reign and helped their club win the 2022 NWSL Shield.

SOPHIE SCHMIDT
Sophie Schmidt featured in two matches at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. She made nine international “A” appearances on the year and scored a goal in the Concacaf victory over Costa Rica in July. At the club level from January to November 2022, Sophie Schmidt made 25 appearances and was named both the Houston Dash Most Valuable Player and Players’ Player of the Year. She earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in August.

DESIREE SCOTT
Desiree Scott started all five matches at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, Scott made 15 international “A” appearances, which ranked tied for second on Canada. At the club level from January to November 2022, Scott made 28 appearances for the Kansas City Current as they posted a club-record 13-match unbeaten streak and reached the NWSL Championship Final.

KAILEN SHERIDAN
Kailen Sheridan posted three clean sheets in four matches at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, she made 15 international “A” appearances and posted eight clean sheets, notably winning the Golden Glove Award at the Concacaf W Championship. At the club level in 2022, Sheridan made 24 appearances, posted eight clean sheets, and was named the NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year. She earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in July.

CHRISTINE SINCLAIR
Christine Sinclair started all five matches at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, she made 11 international “A” appearances and scored two goals, increasing her world international record to 190 career goals. At the club level from January to November 2022, Sinclair made 23 appearances, co-led all Canadians with five NWSL goals, and captained the Thorns to the 2022 NWSL Championship. She earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in April.

EVELYNE VIENS
Evelyne Viens made four international “A” appearances for Canada in October and November 2022, notably earning Performance of the Match honours in a 4:0 win over Morocco in October. She fired the shot that led to an Argentina own goal in an October win and scored a goal and an assist in the win over Morocco. At the club level from January to November 2022, Viens was the second-best goalscorer in the Damallsvenskan with 21 goals, a new Canadian record for the league. She earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in October.

SHELINA ZADORSKY
Shelina Zadorsky made one start at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as Canada won silver and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. In all, she made 10 international “A” appearances, scored goals against Nigeria and Brazil, and earned Performance of the Match honours in a win over Brazil in November. At the club level from January to November 2022, Zadorsky made 21 appearances with Tottenham Hotspur FC. She earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in November.
