Sylvie Béliveau awarded Women of Distinction Award – Sports and Wellness

Sylvie Béliveau, Canadian Soccer Association Long Term Player Development Manager and former Women’s National Team head coach, will receive a Women of Distinction Award this Monday 26 September. She is one of 11 laureates that will be honoured by the Montréal Women’s Y Foundation for her work in the Sports and Wellness field.

She is one of 11 laureates that will be honoured by the Montréal Women’s Y Foundation for her work in the Sports and Wellness field.



Sylvie Béliveau is a well known figure in national and international women’s soccer. She has been a part of several FIFA’s Technical Study Group, a role that included her participation in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011™. In Canada, she coached at various levels before leading the Women’s National Team to its first appearance in a FIFA Women’s World Cup™ in 1995. She was inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame in 2006.



Béliveau is also known in Québec for the work she does with Égale Action, an organization that promotes the participation in sport and physical activity of women of all ages. Égale Action, officially founded in 2001 by a small group of dedicated women, including Sylvie Béliveau, is slowly gaining traction across the province by offering a wide variety of training, partnership opportunities and recognition to women involved in the field.



The Annual Women of Distinction Awards gala, in its 18th year, recognizes the contribution of women who make a real difference in their respective field. Last year’s Sport and Wellness Woman of Distinction was skater Joannie Rochette.
