“Soccer has always been an important part of my life. I have very positive memories of growing up playing soccer” said Steve Nash, who is also an original investor in the Women’s Professional Soccer league. “It was an easy decision for me to get involved in promoting this great sport when the Canadian Soccer Association approached me to participate in this project.”

“We are pleased to have a Canadian sports celebrity such as Steve Nash and two of our country’s top ambassadors for the sport, Christine Sinclair and Julian de Guzman, assist the Association in increasing awareness and, ultimately participation, in the sport of soccer,” said Peter Montopoli, Canadian Soccer Association General Secretary. “We truly believe that as the largest participation sport in the world and Canada, soccer has a story to tell. This PSA is the first step in the Canadian Soccer Association telling that story and putting a face to the sport in this country.”

Produced in both official languages, the PSA premiered on Tuesday, November 15 during the Canada v St. Kitts and Nevis 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier match. It will be distributed to all national broadcasters, as well as featured on migmultidev-canada-soccer.pantheonsite.io, Canada Soccer social media platforms and in stadium at home matches and competitions in the coming year. The video will also be provided to member provincial and territorial soccer associations for their own use in promoting the sport in their region.
