Nutrilite Championship moves to Montréal

Does the Impact de Montréal have its mojo back? The defending Nutrilite Canadian Championship winners ended a seven-game winless streak this past Sunday with a 4:0 victory over the Austin Aztex. The victory came in front of the club’s 11,470 fans at Stade Saputo, the perfect precursor to the team’s all-important cup match this Wednesday.

The Impact face Vancouver Whitecaps FC this 20 May at Stade Saputo in match day three of the 2009 Nutrilite Canadian Championship. Both teams need a win to keep pace with the tournament-leading Toronto FC. The Impact and Whitecaps FC have yet to record a point after both clubs lost their opening match to Toronto FC over the past two weeks.

Last year, the Impact won both cup contests 2:0 over the Whitecaps – once at Stade Saputo and then again at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver. The Whitecaps have in fact yet to defeat the Impact at Stade Saputo.

The 2009 Nutrilite Canadian Championship runs 6 May to 18 June in Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver. Each team plays home and away against two opponents. The top team not only wins the Voyageurs Cup, but also advances to the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League season. Last year, the Impact de Montréal won the Nutrilite Canadian Championship before reaching the quarter-final stage of the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League.
