Kingston to host Men’s World Cup Qualifying Match

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Men’s World Cup Team will play their first World Cup Qualifying match against Belize on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Richardson Stadium (Queen’s University campus) in Kingston, Ontario at 4:30 p.m.. This will be the team’s first match in the opening round of World Cup Qualifying for the 2006 World Cup. The return leg of the home and away series will be played in Belize on Sunday, June 20.

This will be the team’s first match in the opening round of World Cup Qualifying for the 2006 World Cup. The return leg of the home and away series will be played in Belize on Sunday, June 20.



The winner of the Canada-Belize series (Group 8) will play the winners of Group 5 (Cayman Islands, Cuba, Costa Rica), Group 6 (Aruba, Surinam, Guatemala) and Group 7 (Antigua & Barbuda, Netherlands Antilles, Honduras) in the semi-final round.



Richardson Stadium is a 10,000 seat grass facility on the campus of Queen’s University. This will be the first game played by the Men’s World Cup Team in Kingston. The Women’s World Cup Team played Australia on September 14, 2003 in front of more than 10,000 fans, prior to the 2003 Women’s World Cup.



Tickets for the game will be available on January 19, 2004 through the Southeast Ontario Soccer Association and at a later date through Queen’s University. Group tickets on the East Stand will be sold by the SOSA at $8.00 each. SOSA is located at 1201 Division Street in Kingston. West Stand tickets will be sold by Queen’s University at the Recreation Centre with Upper Gold being sold for $29.00 each, and Blue and Red section tickets at $15.00 each. Please note that the SOSA will have some West Stand tickets for sale for those soccer communities wishing to purchase individual tickets.
