Forge FC defeat Municipal Limeño 1:2 to advance to Concacaf League Round of 16

Canadian Premier League club earned berth as Island Games Champions

Forge FC have earned their second consecutive Concacaf League Round of 16 berth with a 1:2 defeat of Salvadorian club Municipal Limeño in San Salvador, El Salvador. Canadian Youth International David Choiniere scored a first half goal, before second half substitute Anthony Novak scored in the 83’ with Forge down to 10 men. Forge now travel to Panama to face Tauro FC on 3 November.

Forge FC went down to 10 men midway through the second half after Jonathan Grant picked up his second yellow card of the game in the 65’.  Despite being outmanned, the Island Games Champions were the aggressors and continued pressuring the Limeño goal eventually leading to the Novak goal.

After earning a berth in the 2019 Concacaf League as the leaders in a three-way tournament along with founding Canadian Premier League clubs FC Edmonton, and Valour FC, Forge FC fell in the Round of 16 to Club Deportivo Olimpia of Honduras 4:2 on aggregate.

Forge FC seek to be one of the 6 teams to advance from the 2020 Concacaf League to the 2021 Concacaf Champions League. Forge FC will have another shot at a Concacaf Champions League spot  when they face Toronto FC in the 2020 Canadian Championship Final at a date to be determined.
