Charbonneau appointed to 2012 Algarve Women’s Cup

Canadian assistant referee to officiate at 12-team competition.

Marie-Josée Charbonneau, an assistant referee from Mascouche, QC, has been appointed to her second major event in 2012. She will be the lone Canadian seeing action at the 2012 Algarve Women’s Cup to be held 29 February-7 March in Portugal.

Added to the FIFA List of Assistant Referees for the first time in 2012, 30-year old Charbonneau has been on the Canadian Soccer Association National List of Assistant Referees since 2010. She recently served as an assistant referee at the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament in Vancouver in January.

The Algarve Women’s Cup will take place in nine host cities throughout Portugal from 29 February to 7 March. Similar to the Cyprus Women’s Cup, 12 teams will play four matches over the course of the tournament. The women’s tournament features four Olympic-bound countries, including Canada’s CONCACAF opponent USA.
