Canada Soccer’s current and future national referee instructors were recently hosted in Toronto, ON in preparation to changes forthcoming in 2017.

The clinic was structured to deliver three facets of 2017 referee education and was led by FIFA instructor Hector Vergara of Winnipeg, MB with support from Canada Soccer’s Referee Department Manager Issac Raymond and Futuro III Instructor Marie-Julie Allaire.

Presentations on the comprehensive changes to the Laws of the Game, the latest material in general referee skills, and the revamped entry level referee course materials were presented.

“This clinic was a first step in the Canadian roll out of a major rewrite of the Laws of the Games and supporting materials,” said Isaac Raymond. “These instructors play an integral role in ensuring that the right message is communicated consistently across Canada.”

The next step for referee instructors is roll-out of their provincial course schedules designed to bring other instructors in their provincial associations, as well as assessors, referees, and players and coaches up to speed with the new Laws of the Game.
