Events Coordinator, National Competitions

Canada Soccer, the official governing body for soccer in Canada, is seeking a seeking a dynamic and driven individual with a passion for event management to join the Events Department to assist with planning and execution of a variety of national events.

Reporting to the National Competitions Manager, the focus of this position will be to coordinate the Association’s national amateur events ranging from the Player-Development Program Championship, National Championships, Futsal Canadian Championship, and Masters Regional Championships. Primary responsibilities will include coordinating travel for participating teams, working with Local Organising Committees to deliver events, preparing briefings on new concepts, and providing general administration support to the organisation. 


As part of the Event Management Unit, the Events Coordinator will perform the following related tasks but are not restricted to:

• Assisting the Competitions Manager with the general organisation of the Canada Soccer’s national competitions (Futsal Canadian Championship, PDP Championship, Masters Regional Championships and National Championships)

• Drafting and delivering workshop content workshops for teams, competitions hosts and external staff members throughout the year 

• Managing travel for external staff members working all national amateur competitions and acting as their main point of contact 

• Liaising with other Canada Soccer departments on an ongoing basis to ensure preparations for national amateur competitions are on track 

• Ordering medals, awards, accreditation, and other competition items for all national competitions as needed 

• Arranging for competition items to be shipped to each competition in a timely manner 

• Working closely with Local Organising Committees on drafting schedules for all national competitions in accordance with the regulations

• Books air travel for teams participating at the National Championships and liaise with Member Associations to ensure travel deadlines are met 

• Conducting site inspections in conjunction with the Competitions Manager to select competition venues and advise Local Organising Committees on minimum standards  

• Continuously updating the A-Z document for national competitions and ensuring that timelines are met by all stakeholders 

• Overseeing submissions from teams on the competitions management website and ensuring that all of the required information is submitted on time 

• Drafting team letters and participation agreements to distribute upon qualification  

• Provides logistic services and support to all Canada Soccer programmes including accreditation, transportation arrangements, and event equipment inventory

• Update event management handbook and documents for all national competitions on an ongoing basis

• Provides advice on Canada Soccer sanctioning requirements for amateur club matches held in Canada and approves international team travel application forms

• Works with other community stakeholders to confirm technical packages for various events

• Supports other event department related activity on an ongoing basis 

• May be required to work weekends and extended hours during busy periods. Travel will be required. 

• Respond to public enquiries regarding upcoming events

Essential Skills, Experience & Abilities:

 University degree or college diploma in management and administration, recreation or a related discipline 

• A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in sports administration

• Strong verbal and written communication skills 

• Demonstrated organisational skills and attention to detail

• Excellent working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 

• Demonstrated experience of working with and supporting volunteers

• Ability to work under minimal supervision and take initiative to complete projects

• A valid driver’s license is required

Preferred Skills, Experience & Abilities:

• Knowledge of the Canadian Soccer Structure Nationally and Provincially

• Experience in developing and delivering content 

• Bilingualism would be considered an asset for this position
