Canada Soccer have confirmed their participation in the upcoming Festival International Espoirs Provence, a 12-nation tournament featuring top men’s national youth programs from around the world. Canada are the seventh nation confirmed for the 2018 edition which runs 26 May to 9 June in Provence, France.
“This is a prestigious youth tournament in France that will provide our tracking Men's EXCEL players with an opportunity to be fully tested against tier-one opponents,” said John Herdman, Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Head Coach and Men’s National EXCEL Director. “We will use these matches to assess the current EXCEL group as we prepare for upcoming CONCACAF youth competitions. The matches will also help identify a group of young players to be targeted for closer monitoring and tracking as we look to the future of our Men’s National Team program.”
The final field will feature three groups of four nations from which three group winners and the best second-place team will advance to the tournament’s semi-finals. Beyond that group phase, the other eight nations advance to classification matches.
Alongside Canada, other nations confirmed for the 2018 tournament are France, England, Japan, Korea Republic, Togo, and Turkey.
