Canada’s Beach Soccer Team set for qualifying in Bahamas

Posted on 2 May 2013 in Beach Soccer Team

Canada’s Beach Soccer Team has announced its 12-man roster for the upcoming FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Qualifiers tournament to take place in Nassau, Bahamas from 8-12 May.

The Canadian team will be one of 11 CONCACAF nations looking to book one of two available spots from the confederation at the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup to take place in Tahiti in September.

Canada will take on Trinidad and Tobago (12:00 local kick-off; Wednesday 8 May), Guyana (14:30 local kick-off; Thursday 9 May) and Mexico (14:30 local kick-off; Friday 10 May) in group play at the tournament.

The three group winners and the highest-seeded runner up will qualify for the semi-final stage on Saturday 11 May that will determine the two CONCACAF nations that will qualify for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

“We know the competition at this tournament will not be easy – and we can expect a particularly difficult match against Mexico,” said Beach Soccer Head Coach Djamel Laraabi – who is also a defender on the team.

“The players are excited about representing Canada and we are hoping to surprise a few people along the way as we give our best effort in the hopes of qualifying for Tahiti 2013.

“The group of players is a mix of professional footballers with some beach soccer specialists. We are fortunate to have a few players who have experience from previous CONCACAF competitions.”
