Legends in Vancouver on hand to honour McLeod, Schmidt and Sinclair

More than 20 honoured members of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame will be on hand to celebrate the international careers of Erin McLeod, Sophie Schmidt and Christine Sinclair, three super legends that will be honoured before Tuesday night’s home match at “Christine Sinclair Place” in Vancouver. In all, at more than 50 former Women’s and Men’s National Team players will be in attendance for the special home match on 5 December in British Columbia.

Canada’s Tuesday match will be broadcast on both OneSoccer and TSN (22.00 ET / 19.00 PT), with the OneSoccer broadcast available as a linear channel on Telus’ Optik TV (Channel 980) as well as online at OneSoccer.ca, through the OneSoccer app and on the fuboTV Canada platform. Fans will find extended coverage for the matches across Canada Soccer’s digital channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube featuring the hashtag #CANWNT.

As part of the pre-match ceremony, 10 members of Canada’s London 2012 Olympic Bronze Medal team will form an honour guard to welcome their former teammates to the pitch. More than 43,000 spectators are expected to fill the stadium in Vancouver, the largest Canada crowd ever for a Women’s National Team friendly match.

The group of Canada Soccer Hall of Fame honoured members includes former Women’s National Team players Tracy David, Geri Donnelly, Martina Franko, Randee Hermus, Kara Lang, Karina LeBlanc, Joan McEachern, Carmelina Moscato, Andrea Neil, Michelle Ring Passant, Carrie Serwetnyk, Helen Stoumbos, Brittany Timko Baxter, Amy Walsh and Rhian Wilkinson.

Heroes from the London 2012 team, which of course includes McLeod, Schmidt and Sinclair, are LeBlanc, Moscato, Timko Baxter, Wilkinson, Robyn Gayle, Diana Matheson, Marie-Eve Nault, Melissa Tancredi, Emily Zurrer and Desiree Scott. With Schmidt and Sinclair making their final Canada appearance on Tuesday night (after McLeod’s departure in 2021), Scott is the last player from the London 2012 Olympic team still active at the international level.

Since 2015, Canada Soccer have honoured each of their Olympic Medal winners at a home match when they left international football. In all, 40 players won either a Bronze or Gold Medal from the Olympic Games between 2012 and 2021. McLeod, Schmidt and Sinclair are the 19th, 20th and 21st players from that group to leave the international game.
