Newfoundland Labrador a great supporter of Canadian soccer
Newfoundland Labrador has always been a great supporter of soccer. Canadians of course remember St. John’s, NL as the site of Canada’s first FIFA World Cup qualification in September 1985. Canada won 2:1 over Honduras and clinched its first CONCACAF Men’s Championship. Thirteen years earlier, St. John’s was host of another memorable victory in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, that time a 3:2 win over USA with a bicycle-kick goal from Glen Johnson.
