Canada’s women’s U-17 team is completing its final preparations this week in Sunrise, FL, USA ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Trinidad and Tobago 2010. Canada defeated Korea Republic 2:0 on Monday in its final international friendly before the tournament. The Korea Republic match was part of Canada’s final nine-day camp which began on 25 August and will conclude this Thursday 2 September when Canada travels into Trinidad and Tobago.

'This final camp has been positive and it is important to have the time to make these last preparations,” said head coach Bryan Rosenfeld. “Overall, our FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup preparation has been excellent. Our positive results in the lead up to the tournament are indicative of this. It is now up to the players to follow through and execute in Trinidad and Tobago.”

Following the recovery day on Tuesday, Rosenfeld and his staff will put the players through several more training sessions before the team travels into Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday evening. The team has trained and played in the hot Florida conditions in an effort to prepare for the heat and humidity that are common to the September rainy season in Trinidad and Tobago. Canada defeated a local development team 1:0 earlier in the camp, scoring the lone goal late in the match.

“We have had a couple of minor setbacks with injuries, but I am very happy with the players who came in to fill the holes,” said Rosenfeld. “I think the versatility of our squad, where many players can play numerous roles, shows the level of depth that we have in the team.”

Canada has been drawn into Group D and will face Ghana, the Republic of Ireland, and Brazil in its three group matches.

The young Canucks will open against Ghana on 6 September, before facing the Republic of Ireland on 9 September, with both matches taking place at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago. Canada will conclude group play against Brazil on 13 September at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, Trinidad.

Canadian fans can follow all the team’s matches from Trinidad and Tobago on CBC’s platform of networks. Canada’s matches will be shown live on CBC Bold and streamed on cbcsports.ca. Each match will then be re-broadcast on the main CBC network at midnight.
