Clark Announces Men's Under-17 Development Camp Roster

Posted on 9 July 2004 in All Men's Teams

Ottawa, Ontario - Ray Clark, Director of Coaching and Player Development has announced his 18-player roster for an Under-17 Development Team training camp in Blaine, Minnesota from July 10-21, 2004.

Canada will play four matches while training in Blaine, two against the United States.

"This project allows us an additional opportunity to look at a number of new National Team prospects in a very competitive setting," said Clark. "The US National Youth Teams have become a permanent fixture on the world stage and benefit from a full time training structure through their Residency Program; and Cruz Azul is one of Mexico's leading Professional Clubs and operates a first class Development Program. These games will certainly provide us with a good measuring stick with which to compare the progress of our players as they move closer to the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championships."

Clark will undoubtedly be counting upon players like goalkeeper Asmir Begovic (Edmonton, AB), striker Alex Elliott (Vancouver, BC), and midfielder Hector Contreras (Montreal, QC) for leadership. All three players were integral components of Stephen Hart's U17 squad that narrowly missed qualifying for the FIFA U17 World Championships in 2003.
