Canada w17 announces roster for FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup

Canada has announced its 21-player roster for the third edition of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. The Canadian team will take part in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Azerbaijan 2012 from 22 September to 14 October, with all three group matches to be played in the capital city of Baku.
"I think the players are quite excited," said Canadian U-17 coach Bryan Rosenfeld. "It has been an exciting year for our women's program, so that has reflected quite positively on our young players."
Canada's lineup features goalkeepers Maryse Bard-Martel, Taylor Bucklin and Kailen Sheridan, defenders Lindsay Agnew, Kadeisha Buchanan, Madeline Iozzi, Nicole Loncar, Victoria Pickett, Rebecca Pongetti, Aman Shergill and Larisa Staub, and midfielders/forwards Summer Clarke, Jasmin Dhanda, Ashley Lawrence, Jordyn Listro, Elissa Neff, Amandine Pierre-Louis, Emily Pietrangelo, Nichelle Prince, Rebecca Quinn and Valérie Sanderson.
Canada is one of 16 teams competing in this year's tournament, with the teams split evenly into four separate groups. In the group phase, Canada will face Nigeria on 22 September, Colombia on 25 September and host Azerbaijan on 29 September. Of note, Canada and Nigeria are two of eight teams that have competed in all three editions of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
The quarter-final phase features match ups between Groups A & B (on 4 October) and Groups C & D (on 5 October). Along with Canada, Colombia, Nigeria and Azerbaijan, teams competing in this year's FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup are: France, Gambia, Korea DPR, and USA in Group B; Brazil, Japan, Mexico, and New Zealand in Group C; and China PR, Germany, Ghana, and Uruguay in Group C.
Canada features 17 returning members from the team that won silver at the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship in May of this year. The most experienced player is Ashley Lawrence, who amongst her 143 days with Canada's youth teams has already participated in one edition of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup (Trinidad and Tobago 2010).
