Canada Games continues with Men's Soccer Tournament

Posted on 5 August 2017 in Around the Soccer World

On the heels of an entertaining week of women's soccer, the Canada Games Men's Soccer Tournament runs 7-12 August in Winnipeg, Manitoba. More than 200 teenagers are competing in the 28-match showcase, including 47 players that have already featured in Canada Soccer's national youth program from the U-15 to U-17 age groups.

The 2017 Canada Summer Games runs from 28 July to 13 August, with the Men's Soccer Tournament running from 7 to 12 August. Every soccer match will be broadcast on TSN, RDS, or CanadaGamesTV.ca. Fans are encouraged to follow the Canada Games using the #CGSoccer hashtag across all of Canada Soccer’s digital channels including Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

The Men's Soccer Tournament features 12 provincial and territorial select teams featuring 18 players each. Following the initial group phase (four groups of three teams), the teams will play through to the placement and medal matches on 12 August. The competition provides young players with another opportunity to test themselves against some of the best young talent in Canada.

This year marks the 13th edition of the Canada Games Men's Soccer Tournament since 1969. From past editions, nine Canada Games alumni are honoured members of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame: Garry Ayre, Bob Bolitho, Jack Brand, Ian Bridge, Tony Chursky, Lyndon Hooper, Sam Lenarduzzi, John McGrane, and Mark Watson.
