Canada announces U-15 camp and international matches

Posted on 20 October 2010 in All Men's Teams

The Canadian Soccer Association has announced it will hold a national U-15 camp for boys born in 1995. The camp, led by national coach Ray Clark, runs 21-31 October in Carson, CA, USA. The camp will take place at the Home Depot facility and will feature 24 young players making their debut in the Canadian national system.

As part of the camp, Canada will play a pair of international games against host USA: a first match on 28 October and a second match on 30 October.

"This will be a chance to get an early look at this age group," said coach Clark. "It will allow us to get an indication of the talent available and how the players stack up against one the better CONCACAF countries. The two matches against USA will also provide valuable international experience for the players as they move through our national program."

As part of coach Clark's identification process for this camp, national coaches have scouted players across the country at the National Training Centres, BMO National Championships as well as invitational tournaments in several provinces. Nine of the selected players are already part of the National Training Centres program in British Columbia, Prairies and Québec. The other 15 players are taking part in club football in Ontario, including three of whom are in the Toronto FC Academy program.

The U-15 camp comes on the heels of a busy summer for Canada's national teams. This marks the 11th different national team in operation this 2010 season. Canada's 11 national teams in 2010 are the men's national team, the men's U-23/Olympic team, the men's U-20 team, the men's U-17 team, men's U-15 team, the Para Soccer team, the women's national team, the women's U-20 team, the women's U-18 team, women's U-17 team, and the women's U-15 team.

This year's U-15 Boys (1995s) program is in fact just one year younger than the current cycle of the national U-17 program (1994s). The 1994 age group is currently preparing for next year's 2011 CONCACAF Men's Under-17 Championship, the biennial confederation championship. Four 1995-born players are not available for the Boys U-15 camp because they are taking part in the concurrent Men's U-17 camp: Sadi Jalali of Edmonton, Dylan Carreiro of Winnipeg, Luca Gasparotto of Ajax, ON, and Christopher Nanco of Brampton, ON.
