The Impact de Montréal has won the 2009 United Soccer Leagues First Division championship. With a 3:1 victory over defending champion Vancouver Whitecaps FC, the Impact clinched its third league playoff championship. The Impact won the two-match final 6-3 on aggregate goals.
The Impact previously won USL-1 championships in 2004 and 1994 (then known as the A-League). The Impact has also won five regular-season title (1995, 1996, 1997, 2005, 2006) and one Nutrilite Canadian Championship (2008).

While Whitecaps FC managed to cut the lead before the break (Ansu Touré in the 44th minute), they could not catch the Impact on this day.
The Impact won all six of its 2009 playoff matches. One year ago, Vancouver won the 2008 USL-1 championship with a 2:1 victory over the Puerto Rico Islanders in the final. The Canadian combination of Montréal and Vancouver has won four of the last six USL-1 championships (Montréal in 2004 and 2009, Vancouver in 2006 and 2008).
