18 October 1977 - Paul Stalteri (Brampton, ON)

CONCACAF champion Paul Stalteri set a national record by making 84 appearances at the international “A” level. He participated in three editions of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers as well as five editions of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. At the club level, he helped Werder Bremen win a Bundesliga title. In 2005, he was runner-up in voting for Canadian Player of the Year honours.

16 October 1917 - Doug McMahon (Winnipeg, MB) - 16 April 1997

Dominion Cup champion Doug McMahon was a star Canadian forward in the 1930s and 1940s, with his football career briefly interrupted when he served in the Second World War. In 1950, he earned an honourable mention when The Canadian Press built its list of best athletes of the half century. In 2002, he was posthumously honoured by The Soccer Hall of Fame.

17 October 1978 - Lars Hirschfeld (Edmonton, AB)

Lars Hirschfeld is now in his 13th season with Canada's national team, having made his debut in 1999 and his first appearance at age 21 on 11 January 2000. He has participated in three CONCACAF Gold Cups and three cycles of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, winning Best Goalkeeper honours at the 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup. In 1997, he won Canada's Challenge Trophy with the Edmonton Italo-Canadians.

18 October 1970 - Helen Stoumbos (Guelph, ON)

CONCACAF champion Helen Stoumbos was part of Canada’s first FIFA Women’s World Cup team at Sweden 1995, also scoring the team’s first goal in the competition. She won a CONCACAF silver medal in 1994 and a gold medal in 1998, with both tournaments held on home soil in Canada. In 2008, she became an honoured member of The Soccer Hall of Fame.
