CONCACAF Champions League
Toronto FC’s trio of Canadian internationals Julian de Guzman, Terry Dunfield and Ashtone Morgan played the full 90 minutes in the first leg of the clubs’s semi-final clash with Santos Laguna, helping the Reds to a 1:1 home draw. The 2011 Canadian Champions will now need to produce a result in Torreón on 4 April 2012 in order to have any hope of advancing to the CONCACAF Champions League Final.
Olivier Occean was on the mark yet again for SpVgg Greuther Fürth as the Canadian striker notched his league-leading 16th goal of the campaign, but Greuther Fürth could only manage a 1:1 draw away to Erzgebirge Aue.
The result means that Fürth have slipped into second place in 2.Budesliga, one point behind leaders Eintracth Frankfurt. Fürth however remain on course for one of the two automatic promotion spots to the Bundesliga.
Adam Straith played 90 minutes in a 1:1 draw for Saarbrücken away to Rot-Weiss Erfurt.
Simeon Jackson played the entire second half in a 2:1 loss for Norwich City away to Fulham in England’s top flight. The results sees the Canaries slip down to 12th in the table, but Jackson’s side remain 11 points clear of relegation and look almost certain to survive their first season in the Premier League.
David Edgar featured in all 180 minutes of an up-and-down week for Burnley FC in the Championship.
Edgar played the full 90 minutes and assisted on the second goal of Burnley’s 5:1 romp over Portsmouth on 31 March before taking part in his side’s 1:3 home loss to Birmingham City on 4 April.
Iain Hume played the final half-hour of Preston North End’s 2:0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.
